Talking About Kids And Sex - Radio Interview

Today I was interviewed on CKNW 980 radio in Canada on how parents should talk to their kids about sex (hear me at 11min 28sec at this link)!

The usual issues were discussed:
  • how comprehensive sex leads to safer sex;
  • how parents are embarrassed and don't know how to approach the conversation;
  • how the discussion needs to start early and continue ongoing;
  • and how to use teachable moments.
Of course there was lots more I would have said if there had been time! One thing in particular is that parents need to make use of all the great resources out there for them and their kids.

For example, Scarleteen, Options for Sexual Health, school counsellors, free youth clinics.

I just hope that I opened the minds of some people enough that they can get the courage to start those important talks with their kids before it's too late.
