Contraception Is A Universal Human Right

The United Nations Population Fund issued its State of the World's Population 2012 report yesterday.

The UNFPA called contraception a universal human right and makes a thorough case for empowering all families and women with the full range of reproductive rights. The even titled their report, "By Choice, Not By Chance."

This is timely considering a woman died in Ireland recently because she was refused an abortion. She was in hospital miscarrying her child, and was horribly ill because of this. Even that fact that she was in the middle of a miscarriage didn't change doctors' minds to allow her an abortion. It was three days before the fetus died, but by then it was too late and she ended up also dying.

Contraception (and by extension, abortion) should be a universal human right. Women should not be forced to bear children because of their biology. Women and their partners should be able to choose when and how to give birth. Anything less is inhumane.
