No More Opt-Out for Sex Education?

The British government is currently examining a proposal to get rid of the opt-out option for sex education in schools.

I think this is a great idea and I hope it is approved. Few parents actually do remove their kids from these classes (only 0.04% according to this article), and many kids are demanding that they want better sex and relationship education.

Schools have the ultimate decision on how this subject will be taught (so long as it falls within the curriculum) so religious families attending religious schools would not have to worry about a class compromising their values.

It's our job as adults and teachers to help children prepare for the real world and we should not deny them sex education simply because of our own discomfort or embarassment.

It's these kids' right to have access to comprehensive education to help them make healthy decisions in their lives and denying them access to this could leave them vulnerable to disease or abuse.
