Workshop Announcement: Learning Fertility Awareness Methods Of Contraception

I am extremely excited to announce that I am in the process of creating a workshop teaching people how to track fertility cycles!

This is useful not only for those wanting to plan a baby, but can be used to prevent pregnancy and to learn what is normal for predicting periods or communicating with health care providers.

I also think that every woman should understand how her body works!

Emergency Contraception For All American Women!

Yesterday it was announced that the age restriction of 17 years on over the counter emergency contraception in the USA is being removed.

This means that emergency contraception will now be available for all American women, regardless of their age. This is great news!

See an easy to understand and informative video explaining how emergency contraception works below.

Happy International Women's Day!

Friday March 8th is International Women's Day and has been celebrated since the early 1900s!

There have been some horrific stories of violence against women this past year in India, and there is still a lot that needs to be done for women's rights around the world.

Read more and see a video from the UN Women Executive Director and the "One Woman" music video below.

Awesome 1950s Ad For Tampons!

I just found this 1950s German video ad for tampons and had to share!

I like this so much more that what we see today.  The women are pretty cool smoking their cigarettes in the jazz club -- not just running around in white pants!

Talking About Kids And Sex - Radio Interview

Today I was interviewed on CKNW 980 radio in Canada on how parents should talk to their kids about sex (hear me at 11min 28sec at this link)!

The usual issues were discussed:
  • how comprehensive sex leads to safer sex;
  • how parents are embarrassed and don't know how to approach the conversation;
  • how the discussion needs to start early and continue ongoing;
  • and how to use teachable moments.
Of course there was lots more I would have said if there had been time! One thing in particular is that parents need to make use of all the great resources out there for them and their kids.

For example, Scarleteen, Options for Sexual Health, school counsellors, free youth clinics.

I just hope that I opened the minds of some people enough that they can get the courage to start those important talks with their kids before it's too late.
